Thing to do in and around Fort William

The stunning areas just a short drive from Ardrhu Holiday Cottages include the haunting beauty of Glencoe and Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain.

Ardnamurchan, which is the most westerly point on the British mainland, can be reached by taking the Corran Ferry, just one mile north.

Activities nearby include the Nevis Range cable car to take you up the mountain of Aonach Mor, offering excellent winter ski-ing and summer downhill mountain biking, also they have added the highwire adventure playground. (or just go for the view and some refreshments at the cafe on the mountain!); the Ice Factor Mountain Activity Centre in Kinlochleven - the biggest indoor ice climbing facility in the world - and our local 9-hole golf course, the Dragon's Tooth, in Ballachulish.

For the energetically minded, activities such as, canyoning, funyakking, white water rafting, and paintballing and climbing and abseiling are all available as full day or half day activities by Vertical Descents in Inchree a couple of miles away.

Within two miles of Ardrhu there is a choice of several hotels offering restaurant and informal bar meals, and for your everyday purchases there is a Co-op store in Ballachulish, which can be found 5 miles away.

 

In Fort William, the Outdoor Capital of the UK, just nine miles north, there is a large morrison supermarket andin the town centre there is a full range of shops to cater for all your holiday needs. There is much to see and do in Fort William.  For those interested in castles, at the turnoff to the A830 Road to the Isle's there are the ruins of old Inverlochy Castle, which played a part in the Civil War of 1642.

Fort William has a full size ten-pin bowling is available at The Nevis Centre just a short walk from the Morrison's supermarket, while Lochaber Leisure Centre has a large heated swimming pool, a fully equipped gym and steam room and sauna.

If you are interested in taking a loch cruise, there is the choice of Crannog Cruises, which cruise down Loch Linnhe to Seal Island, from the Pier in Fort William, or alternatively there are Loch Shiel Cruises based in Glenfinnan, some 15 miles along the A830 Road to the Isles.  Here you can also see the National Trust Visitor Centre and Bonnie Prince Charlie Monument, as well as the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct (now of Harry Potter fame!).
